Los Angeles Rams offseason moves 2024 receive strong grade from PFF analyst

Any offseason that sees a team lose one of the best NFL players of all time would reasonably be viewed as one of the worst in the National Football League that year. That’s why the Los Angeles Rams offseason moves in 2024 have drawn so much attention around the league.

Los Angeles knew in advance that future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald would be stepping away from football. While that did mean the Rams would have more cap space to improve their roster, there is no replacing arguably the best defensive lineman in the modern era.

Still, Rams general manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay found a way to make things worse. Even with several of the highest-paid NFL players on the roster, Los Angeles moved money around and had just enough space to make significant improvements to the Rams roster for the 2024 season.

Los Angeles addressed both sides of the ball, too. Jonah Jackson was pulled away from the Detroit Lions, a free-agency signing that provided the Rams with a quality left guard and allowed Steve Avila to kick inside to center. There is a lot of optimism that Avila could become one of the top centers in the NFC before long. Plus, Snead re-signed standout guard Kevin Dotson.

Defensively, with the club needing more talent following the departure of defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, Los Angeles upgraded its secondary with safety Kamren Curl and cornerbacks Tre’Davious White and Darious Williams.

With the secondary and offensive line addressed, the 2024 NFL Draft provided the Rams with an opportunity to focus on their defensive front. Sure enough, Snead used a first-round pick on edge rusher Jared Verse – a consensus pick for Defensive Rookie of the Year – and traded up in Round 2 for defensive lineman Braden Fiske. Now, all of the Rams offseason moves are receiving some praise.

Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus handed out grades for all 32 NFL teams this offseason. Addressing the Rams, he gave them one of the highest grades with an A-, highlighting how Snead used both free agency and the NFL Draft to help the roster.

“Darious Williams, Jonah Jackson and Kamren Curl are all impactful signings. They also brought back Kevin Dotson. In the draft, they selected potential starters in Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, Blake Corum and Kamren Kinchens. Plus, they might have had my favorite Day 3 draft haul of any team.”

Snead demonstrated once again why he is one of the best NFL general managers, even when he isn’t swinging a blockbuster trade for an All-Pro defensive player to make that big push. With what the team already showed last season and the additions made on both sides of the ball, the Rams are well-positioned to take another step forward in 2024.
